Strength and Motivation

I was reading a book that said that “type A people are so strong and motivated”. Not to sound defensive (or maybe a little), but is this author meaning to imply that type B people are weak and unmotivated?? This same book was specifically speaking of women, as it got all “girl power” about how women take control and “get things done”. I understand it was a rally cry for women to do what the author felt comes naturally and “take the bull by the horns”.
I do not consider myself a type A person, but I do consider myself strong and (usually) quite motivated. To me, a type A person is like a sprinter. They have an enormous amount of drive and energy and can get things off to a spectacular start and make for a glorious finish…as long as the race is short and has little obstacles.
A type B person to me is like a marathoner. They are not built for speed. They train for endurance. They may compete against others, but are mostly competing to improve their personal best. Type B people not only endure what life throws at them, but they often also must endure the burden of self-criticism and even a little self-loathing. We are motivated to accomplish all sorts of things, not out of a competitive nature, but just to prove to ourselves we are worthy members of the human race.
You don’t see sprinters finish a race and go back to run in with the slowest people in the race. There’s simply no time for that! Type A people don’t have much time to bring people alongside on their personal journey, so if you want to go with them, you better catch up with them yourself! But if you want to marathon with a type B person, they will be happy to have you join them. And might even carry you across the finish line with all of the strength and motivation they possess.
